PTI Industries Inc. has been contacted by the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. to assist them in restoring the Magnesium “skins” on the gear doors of a Heinkel He 219 Night Fighter that they are presently restoring. This aircraft was revolutionary for its time and actually flew combat missions in WWII. It is the only one of its kind left in existence. The scope of work involves stopping the deterioration of the existing Magnesium by employing an acid treatment know as “Pickling” to remove existing corrosion then preventing any further degradation by preserving the Magnesium with an Anodic process known as Dow 17.
